Description

Introduction to Statistics is a multimedia program providing a full foundation course for any discipline that uses statistics. Students see demonstrations and animated graphics along with spoken and written explanations and can test their understanding with questions and interactive exercises. Immediate feedback is given on right and wrong answers and hints are available if needed.

Technical terms can be looked up instantly in a hypertext glossary.

If more detailed explanations are needed, an index takes the user directly to a section of the program where the topic is covered.

Bookmarks can be set to allow easy return to sections of particular interest.

Tutors can construct 'Study Plans' – menus that guide students through sequences of sections in an order different from the program's own sequence. If there appear to be gaps in the students' understanding, study plans can be set up to address them and students can be left to work through them alone and at their own pace.

Students can proceed at their own pace, skipping forwards or backwards through the program if they wish. The student-friendly nature of the material allows students to use the program without intervention by a tutor as an agreeable private-study facility.

Another teaching use is for tutors to bookmark any of its lively, animated explanations and demonstrations to use in whole-class teaching with a projector or interactive whiteboard.

It is used in over 200 departments in schools, colleges and universities in the UK and overseas and with thousands of students.

It has been highly praised by reviewers as an accessible and engaging introduction for beginning students at school and university level.
